Integrating Green Manure

So now it was time to integrate Green Manure into the soil back. First batch of green manure was Dhaincha and Sunn Hemp. Broadcasted on 30th June. We had an earlier post about it.

On 18th August we found that the plants were at appropriate stage to be integrated into the soil. Just started flowering. Stems still green. We integrated the green manure using a Rotavator.

So this is the completion of our one of the first steps towards doing chemical free farming and enriching the soil naturally.

Some learnings were also there for us. Dhaincha needs much more water. It is not best suitable for our land. Sunn Hemp is better for us. So going ahead we’ll do Green Manuring using Sunn Hemp. We are also planning to cultivate Sunn Hemp on around an Acre for generation of seeds which can be used later by us. We don’t want to buy the seeds again. We want to grow our own seeds for Green Manuring. Cost saved is also profit after all! Might not add to top line, but will reduce cost.
